Cecile de Troyes – Optimistic, Stubborn, Smart, Compassionate – Cecile was a great heroine who did not feel diminished by her weaknesses – if anything, she was the type to improve on her incapabilities and that is what made her stronger. Some examples include the choosing and disposal of certain trolls as slaves and banishment as punishment. Yes, I approve!Īnother aspect of the novel which I truly enjoyed would be the whole political side of Trollus where its governed by so many distinct and sometimes even unfair laws. This is unlike other YA novels where the lead tends to make poor decisions but Cécile was smart even though she may not be a soldier or warrior. She was bold, yet compassionate and not afraid to show her feelings which is worth appraisal. It is a decent pace from the very beginning and I loved the main character from the start. Its descriptive enough to understand the world but not too much that you would get tired of it. There are also a lot more complications to this though which I won’t say too much about since it would be best if you all read about it yourselves 🙂ĭanielle also does a great job in terms of writing. Moreover, the could also feel each other’s emotions – pain, fear, happiness, etc. The entire bonding aspect of the trolls is quite interesting since by marriage, the pair becomes one entity both mentally and physically. As soon as she arrives, Cécile wants nothing more to escape from this nightmare but as she slowly learns about the trolls and their history, she begins to understand them in a way that alters her perspective of Trollus and its civilians.

The only way to do this is by marrying (or in Trollus terms, being bonded) to the heir of the throne, Tristan. She is believed to be the key to breaking a witch’s curse which was placed on the kingdom for five centuries. For this reason, I gave this book 4/5 stars.Ĭécile de Troyes life suddenly takes a turn for the worst when she is kidnapped and taken beneath the mountain to a city called Trollus, one that is inhabited by trolls.

Nevertheless, once you get through 100 pages I was completely glued to the book and ended up finishing it overnight. The first 3/4 of the book was amazing but I didn’t really enjoy the last 1/4 of the book since it was way too romance driven. Everything from the characters, the plot, the mystery and the amazing politics within Trollus was so captivating. The basic description of the novel does not give it any justice because there is much more development and world building which Danielle provides that had me so intrigued. Publication: April 1st 2014 by Strange Chemistryįirst of all, I have to say that this book far exceeded my expectations. “I don’t think what happens in the past dictates what will happen in the future.”
